How to Prep for a Senior Photo Shoot in San Antonio (Complete Guide)
Senior year is such a special time—and your senior photos should celebrate everything that makes you unique. Whether you're excited, nervous, or just not sure what to expect, prepping for your session can make all the difference.
As a professional senior photographer in San Antonio, I’ve photographed hundreds of high school seniors and helped them feel confident and relaxed in front of the camera. Here’s everything you need to know to get ready for your big day.
1. Choose Outfits That Reflect You
Bring 2–3 outfits that show off different sides of your personality:
- Casual Look: Think jeans, a cute top, or a letterman jacket.
- Dressy Look: Something formal or trendy—like a prom dress, blazer, or skirt set.
- Personal Look: Include uniforms, hobbies, or college gear (band, dance, sports, college tee, etc.).
Tips:
- Avoid neon colors or loud logos.
- Iron or steam clothes the night before.
- Bring accessories and layers to mix things up!
2. Hair & Makeup: Plan Ahead
This is the time to look your best—but also like yourself. Many seniors choose professional hair and makeup for a polished look.
If you’re doing it yourself:
- Use matte makeup to reduce shine.
- Avoid experimenting with new products right before your shoot.
- Bring touch-up products (lip gloss, powder, brush) in your bag.
Bonus Tip: Schedule haircuts at least 1–2 weeks in advance so they settle naturally.
📦 3. Pack a "Photo Shoot Bag"
Make sure you have everything you need by packing a small tote or backpack with:
- Extra outfits & shoes
- Hairbrush or comb
- Blotting paper or powder
- Water bottle
- Makeup for touch-ups
- Comfortable walking shoes (for in-between locations)
- Props like instruments, sports gear, or signs
🕒 4. Get Plenty of Rest the Night Before
You’ll look your best when you’re well-rested. Go to bed early the night before, drink plenty of water, and avoid salty or greasy foods that could make you feel bloated.
5. Relax – You’ve Got This!
Feeling camera-shy? Totally normal! I guide you through the whole process—posing, expressions, and how to stand so you look natural and confident.
What I tell every senior:
- You don’t need to know how to pose.
- This session is about you—your personality, your vibe, your story.
- We’ll laugh, move around, and have fun!
📍 BONUS: Local Session Tips for San Antonio Seniors
- Hydrate: It can get warm in San Antonio, even in the spring or fall.
- Avoid tan lines: If you’ll be wearing sleeveless or off-shoulder outfits, plan ahead.
- Choose locations you love: Whether it’s The Pearl, the Japanese Tea Garden, or your school’s stadium, we’ll pick spots that feel like you.
